The picture below shows a Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set we purchased and used everyday as it sat on our kitchen counter.

The knives were very sharp and my wife Jerri cut herself the first time she used the set and I cut myself as I was having fun cutting green peppers.

Whenever you use cutlery that is this sharp, stay focused and work a little slower to ensure your safety.

We have a hard time thinking that protective gloves would be functional but we do see the professionals using them.

My wife and I loved this set, but we have recently sold it on this site to test and review another set.

You can cut a tomato "wafer thin and straight" with these knives and they have proven to us that they stay sharp over time.

I don't know why but the steak knives are especially missed by me since we sold that set.

They not only worked well as steak knives, but when the paring knife was being used elsewhere, a steak knife fit well for that use in size and usability in that function.

The knives feel secure in your hands and are just the right weight. Jerri and I agree with all of the comments below as these knives seem like they should sell for much more than the $130 price Amazon offers them at.

We have sold our Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set and will be moving on to test and review a new Simply Calphalon set.

The purchaser (Doug) of the Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set called me today (September 20, 2012), and told me that he was trained by a culinary chef and this set is fantastic.

We have asked him for his review and will get it posted on this site when it comes in.

Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set

Some Amazon comments below tell the story of happy Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set clients;

  • I knew I was going to love these knifes. Well balanced, well weighted, and feel great in hand.
  • The poly grip handles offer a very slight give and feels soft to the touch. I actually really like the poly grip handles.
  • The blades are nice and strong and sharp right out of the box!
  • They cut and chop tomatoes and onions awesomely.
  • My son used to work as a chef in a big restaurant and he loved these knives.
  • They sit in your hand perfectly.
  • The Santoku and Partoku knives come with oval indents that let food to release from the blade. All knives feature forged bolsters for better balance and to keep fingers from running up on the blade.
  • They are very nice, sharp as all get out, and come with a nice bamboo butcher block storage - and they have a life-time guarantee, which is also sweet.
  • This is not my first knife set and these far and away are better than the other set I have had for years.
  • I'm pretty sure these will last me for as long as I'll need a sharp knife in the kitchen.
  • My husband and I have been very happy with these knives. They've made life in the kitchen much easier, we threw away all of our other knives.
  • But be careful...my husband has already cut himself twice just picking them up!
  • The handles are not squishy; they have a great tactile feel to them that makes them feel secure in the hand.
  • The set is just so elegant, and the bamboo block makes it look impressive on my counter-top.
  • ...how do the knives cut? Enter: The Tomato Test. The partoku was the first one I used, and before any sharpening it cut the tomato like butter. I was shocked that knives could cut like that! Then I sharpened it, and it worked even BETTER. I'm able to pull off translucent slices of cucumber, and chopping garlic is a dream - they are excellent and substantial knives straight out of the box.
  • These knives make you feel special. Own this set and you have it made, made in the shade.
  • I feel that little bit more professional when I use them, and I'm finding the preparation process is a whole lot more fun these days!
  • They are sharp enough to probably cut a shadow, and they come with their own sharpener!
  • They should rename the handle from non-slip to never-ever-ever-slip.
  • ...and last but not least, the baby sudoku knife... priceless!!!
  • I can cut through a potato as easily as I can cut through butter.
  • I have had this set of knives for over a year now and still love them.
  • I am loving these knives!
  • I finally broke down and ordered this set. I don't know why I waited for so long!
  • I really wanted some J.A. HENCKELS but was very surprised at the quality of the knives. I balanced them on one finger and they were level, you can tell the quality that was put into these and that they will last forever (also nice they come with a lifetime guarantee).
  • I always dreaded the prep/cutting time involved in any recipe but things so so much more quickly and easily with proper knives!
  • The steak knives are great; light weight yet sharp and sturdy.

chicago cutlery landmark 14-piece block knife set

The Chicago Cutlery Landmark 14-Piece Block Knife Set above is very nice looking, the Block is actually painted and not stained but it still looks very nice and some reviewers said the block looks better than most. The set is going fast and only a few are left, don't delay on this one!

  • The poly inserts are great at protecting your fingers and hands as your cuts move in and out and early reports are that they hold their position in the block well.
  • Many people who have seen this set in person have commented on how beautiful the block and set looks.
  • In all of our research, the comments are that this Chicago Cutlery 14-Piece Block Knife Set is a wonderful knife set especially when the price is factored in.
  • These are very sturdy knives with added strength, balance, and control as they are all once piece (blade to handle or Full metal tang), which is why many people choose this set.
  • The blades are very sharp and not flimsy at all, will hold edge with proper care.
  • They cut through most things effortlessly and they fit small hands as well as larger hands, making them comfortable and easy to use.
  • A forged bolster keeps your fingers from running up on the blade creating an added level of safety against cutting yourself as you work in your kitchen.
  • The knives themselves offer great quality and feel.
  • Users haven’t reported any issues with rust, staining or dulling of any sort.
  • These knives are made of High-carbon stainless steel to create a stronger, harder blade that resists stains, rust and pitting.

However, Like most quality sets, it is recommended that they be hand-washed and dried right away after use.

Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 18-Piece Knife Block Set with In-Block Knife Sharpener

The Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 18-Piece Knife Block Set with In-Block Knife Sharpener above is equipped with the most often-used pieces of kitchen cutlery.
This set makes a great starter choice or addition to a current cutlery set to augment the existing collection.
It includes two paring knives as you always need more than one, 3 - 3-1/2-inch knives, a 5-1/2-inch utility knife, 8-inch chef's knife, 7-inch Santoku, 7-inch serrated bread knife, 5-inch boning knife, 8-inch slicer, shears, and a set of eight 4-1/2-inch forged steak knives.

  • To house them all and keep them at the ready, the set comes with an angled 17-slot storage block with a handy built-in the block sharpener.
  • Knives feature high-carbon stainless-steel, full-tang blades for strength and balance and heavy-duty forged bolsters.
  • Triple stainless-steel rivets secure ergonomic polymer handles to the blades for security and comfort.
  • The set measures approximately 8 by 7 by 13 inches and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
  • The best knives may not always be made in Germany; with a 4.5 star rating from almost 100 reviews at Amazon you will not be disappointed with the Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 18-Piece Knife Block Set.

Like all quality knives, Chicago Cutlery sets are made of high carbon steel, which can rust if left in water although people are washing them in the dishwasher with few bad effects.
These knives are very sharp and you can see this when you hold the 7 inch knife loosely by the handle and pull it over a tomato without applying pressure. It will slice through like butter.

There is only one minor complaint about the set and it involves the steak knives as not being serrated - My wife and I liked that these Chicago Cutlery steak knives were not serrated as they were so sharp, they didn't need to be serrated.
Some reviews compare these knives to a $500 set from Henckels and Consumers Digest selected these over many sets costing hundreds of dollars more (including a Mundial set that they reviewed).
This set will surprise you in its beauty and quality for the price.
They may not be better than a Mundial 5100 block set, but so far they're pretty close.
Comments are that the handles and blades are perfectly matched with no gaps or any other errors in construction.
There may be better knife sets out there but you are going to pay a lot more for them.
This set is perfect for the average home kitchen and again for the money they can't be beat.

Chicago Cutlery Forum 4-Piece Steak Set, Sheath Packaging

We wanted to show you the Chicago Cutlery Steak Knife set.

My wife and I just don't like serrated knives as it is difficult to sharpen them and all knives need sharpening. Finding non-serrated steak knives of good quality is dificult. However, there is a set of steak knives that might serve you well in several ways in your kitchen. This Chicago Cutlery Steak Knife Set is very attractive for everyday use or on special occasions. They look like and will compliment the Chicago Cutlery Fusion set above. The handles have a nice curve to them, they are light, sturdy and razor sharp.
The finish is brushed and easy to hold and they are even dishwasher safe while also feeling very well balanced.
When considering a cutlery piece to be dishwasher safe, that category needs to consider the harsh chemicals that can ruin composite handles.
The handles here are stainless steel and will not be hurt in your dishwasher.
My wife finds them to be perfect in her hands and loves the ability to place them in the dishwasher when done as she tends to use them as an everyday paring knife.
We have ordered this set so she will always have a clean knife to work with to use as her paring knife.
